Paolo Solano
Director of Legal Affairs and Submissions on Enforcement Matters at the Commission for Environmental Cooperation. Mr. Solano obtained his law degree from the Faculty of Law at the National University of Mexico (UNAM); a Master’s on Environmental Governance from University of Essex, UK (awarded with honors); a Diploma on US Law from Georgetown Law Center, and graduate studies on Business Management at HEC Montréal and Canadian Law at Université de Montréal.
Paolo is a civil law trained lawyer with over 15 years of experience in the field of international environmental law. His experience includes advising on the operational and legal matters of the Commission for Environmental Cooperation, implementation of the NAFTA/CUSMA and leading international enforcement investigations. Paolo has extensive experience as public speaker in public forums across North America. His language proficiency has allowed him to present and engage with multicultural audiences in English, French and Spanish.
Paolo continuously works with law researchers, professors, students and law clinics to enhance and facilitate law practice to young generations of lawyers. Paolo has also been a visiting law professor in the U.S. and Mexico and is a strong advocate of practice-based learning and exchange of opportunities for law students throughout North America.
Since 2008, Paolo is rapporteur for the Yearbook of International Environmental Law on and in 2015 developed a book chapter on NAFTA and Sustainable Development published by Cambridge University Press.
